Baudet du Poitou Donkey Foals
Our Baudet du Poitou donkey, Izzy, starting to foal, notice the wet on her leg and the tail position. |
Now lying down, the front feet are visible and the sac has broken. |
Izzy got up and moved , before lying down and carrying on. The foal swung behind her with the head and forefeet out, which is good for clearing fluid from the foals lungs. Keep watching, but give them space if they don't want you near. Some prefer to foal at night, away from eyes. |
Tizer is almost out, and Izzy is already getting to know him. Doris has come in to meet the new member of the herd. |
Placenta not yet passed, but she's already licking him, and he's trying to stand. It was a lovely warm day so she foaled outside in a clean field. If you have to dry them, leave the face and bottom alone, only dry the middle until they are fully bonded. If you need to jacket the foal, rub the outside on the placenta to transfer the smell first. |
Getting there. |
Beware they don't get caught in your stock wire while they try and stand. |
